This morning I woke up and couldn’t really work, so I figured I should see a movie. So I watched “Oldboy” – a Korean film that I had. The Russian radio that gave me the idea to watch it made it look like a kung-fu flick that Tarantino liked a lot. So I figured I’d see it. Can’t believe how wrong that description was.
Well, surely, it had some fighting. And Tarantino might have liked it for some perverted reasons of his, but don’t you think that this movie has anything in common with Kill Bill. Well, the revenge theme is there, but the Oldboy revenge is so hard, it makes killing Bill look like a biggest blessing Bill could get.
The movie was really hard, heavy, intense, gory and violent. Thriller would be a right word to name its genre. I am not saying that it was bad – oh no, it is well made and it gets the point across, but it is just not a good film to see on a jolly Saturday morning. One thing I learned for sure – if there is someone I want to kill and that someone is about to take it well – kill him nonetheless. Or at least permanently maim him. Don’t let anything get in the way.
